Goal Settings

Week 3 : Goal Settings
Wednesday / 21th of June 2017 / Dewan Kuliah Ibnu Hazim UiTM Pahang Jengka Campus

After this slot, we should know :

-setting goals for the new semester

-writing effective goal statements

-using the learning management system

 What is goal?

-goals are the end toward which we direct our effort
-goals are things we want to achieve
-goals are important in varsity life because they help motivate us to do work, attend classes and study for exams
-we can improve our academic performance in university by learning to set goals that motivate us to do well and that increase your chance for success.

To be both useful and motivating, the goals we must have some important characteristics: SMART

Specific
-What exactly do we want to achieve? -The more specific our description, the bigger the chance we will get exactly that. S.M.A.R.T. goal setting clarifies the difference between 'I want to be a success student' and 'I want to get 4.0 flat for every semester’.
Measurable

-Measurable goals means that we identify exactly what it is we will see, hear and feel when we reach our goal. It means breaking our goal down into measurable elements. We will need concrete evidence.Measurable goals can go a long way in refining what exactly it is that we want, too. Defining the physical manifestations of our goal or objective makes it clearer, and easier to reach.

Attainable
-Is our goal attainable? That means investigating whether the goal really is acceptable to us. We weigh the effort, time and other costs our goal will take against the profits and the other obligations and priorities we have in life.
Relevant
-Is reaching our goal relevant to us? Do we actually want to success, be famous and a busy job? we decide for ourself whether we have the personality for it.If we are lacking certain skills, we can plan trainings. If we lack certain resources, we can look for ways of getting them.
Time-bound
- Time is gold! Make a tentative plan of everything we do. Everybody knows that deadlines are what makes most people switch to action. So install deadlines, for ourself and our group, and go after them.

Setting goals for the new semester

Short term
-A short-term goal is something we want to do in the near future. The near future can mean today, this week, this month, or even this year. A short-term goal is something we want to accomplish soon.

Long term
A short term goal is a goal we can achieve in 12 months or less. Examples include a long-term goal is something you want to do further in the future. Long-term goals require time and planning. They are not something us can do this week or even this year. Long-term goals usually take 12 months or more to achieve.

How to use the LMS???

-Learning Management System (LMS) is a software application that allows instructors to create, document, track, report and deliver courses to students.

-It helps the instructors to deliver material to the students, administer tests and other assignments, track students progress and manage record-keeping.

-in UiTM, Learning Management System (LMS) is called i-Learn.
-i-Learn aims to help students increase the skills of technology use and improve knowledge acquisition and information sharing
